What Is Stay Sharp This Summer?

Since 2013, the Chehalis School District has been committed to preparing and supporting 100% of our students by cultivating their interests, unlocking their full potential, and guiding them as they align their skills, talents, and purpose with career pathways.

75 by 35 is our district’s current student achievement goal. By the Class of 2035 (the 2026-2027 school year’s 4th graders), we want to see 75% of our graduates go on to earn some sort of post-secondary certificate or degree and 100% of our graduates to feel prepared and supported for their future goals. CLICK HERE to read for the Student Achievement home page where you can learn more about this exciting effort.

The Stay Sharp This Summer goal reminds us that student achievement is a year-round endeavor.  Look for this logo this summer for great ideas how you can help your student keep the learning going year round, while also enjoying your summer activities.

What is Strive for 5?

Reading for just a few minutes a day – about five books over the summer – can help keep minds busy and skills sharp, so that students and teachers can resume learning this fall right where they left off in June. This summer, we’re challenging all Chehalis students in grades K-12 to join the Strive for 5 Challenge and commit to reading at least five books over the summer. Those who complete the challenge will have the satisfaction of knowing they’ll be starting the 2026-2027 school year strong. They’ll also be eligible for recognition and to win some fabulous prizes!

Participation in Strive for 5 is simple:

  • Between June 12 and Sept. 1 read at least 5 books – you get to pick the genre and subject, we just ask that the books be at your reading level
  • Have your parent/guardian help you fill out the Strive for 5 form by Sept. 1 to tell us a little bit about the 5 books you read

Your parent will need to be logged in to ParentSquare to fill out the form. Need help? Email Carrina Stanton at THIS LINK.
