Foster Care

Foster Care

Two hands gently hold paper cutouts of a family, symbolizing protection and care.

Students in foster care require additional support–and the Chehalis School District is here to provide that. Support may look like assistance to enroll, sign up for free meals, or make plans for extracurricular activities. We also ensure that students who receive special education services are provided those services in accordance with their most recent IEP.

New to Chehalis?

Please coordinate with your student’s DCYF case/social worker to ensure that a Best Interest Determination (BID) meeting is scheduled before your student enrolls.

The BID meeting brings together team members from your student’s district and Chehalis to discuss and determine if changing districts is in the best interest of the student. This process is required, per RCW 28A.225.350

If your student is in foster care, please reach out to our foster care liaison, Katie Arnold, for support. She will ensure that an updated School Notification Form is provided by the case/ social worker, and assist in scheduling the BID.
