It’s Up to You: Stay Current on Your Student’s Account

Students will not be denied meals if they do not have a balance in their student lunch account, but the cost of their meal will be added to their account. Food service cannot send statements or bills or tell students their balance is low or negative. Families, it is your responsibility to keep current on your student’s account balance.

  • To view your student’s lunch account balance, log into Family Access in Skyward and choose “Food Service” in the menu bar on the left hand side. This page gives you information on your student’s balance, fees due, payments made and daily account of what your student has purchased. A payment button will take you to a portal where you can make a payment to your student’s account.
  • Want to keep from being surprised by a lunch bill? Log into Family Access in Skyward and then choose “My Account” at the top of the page. You can opt in to receive a message if your student’s lunch account goes below $5 remaining.

Dietary Restrictions

Does your student have special dietary requirements?

The USDA Child Nutrition Programs support access to healthy meals to all children, including children with disabilities who have special dietary needs. Under the law, a disability is an impairment, which substantially limits a major life activity. This can include allergies and digestive conditions but does not include personal diet preferences.

We are required to make reasonable modifications to meal(s) on a case-by-case basis to accommodate disabilities which restrict a child’s diet:

  • Meals must be provided at no extra charge
  • Accommodations must be made on a case-by-case basis
  • It is not necessary to offer specific brands or fundamental alterations to the program

The request for meal modifications must include:

  • Food(s) to be omitted/avoided from the child’s diet
  • How the ingestion of the food impacts the child
  • Food(s) to be substituted

Requests for meal modification must be signed by a State-recognized medical authority, a licensed health care professional authorized to write medical prescriptions in Washington, and should be submitted to your respective school building/nurse:

  • Medical Doctor (MD)
  • Doctor of Osteopathy (DO)
  • Physician’s Assistant (PA) with prescriptive authority
  • Naturopathic Physician
  • Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP)
