SchooLinks Resources for Families

What is SchooLinks?

Welcome to SchooLinks

Starting with the 2025-2026 school year, all school districts in Washington state will be plugging students and families into SchooLinks as their resource for their High School and Beyond Plan (HSBP). The HSBP is a state graduation requirement designed to help students explore careers or college pathways starting in 7th grade. Throughout the year, students update their HSBP goals to reflect their changing interests and goals, connecting what they learn and the skills they develop to future career pathways.

The HSBP has been a graduation requirement for Washington students for many years, but prior to this year, districts varied in the tools they used for HSBP. In an effort to ensure all Washington students have access to high-quality HSBP resources, the state passed SB 5243 requiring a single, universal HSBP platform for all Washington schools.

SchooLinks provides a single place for students to complete and track every component of the HSBP. Students can use SchooLinks to:

  • Identify their strengths and interests through surveys that personalize their learning and career path.
  • Research post-secondary options, including 2- and 4-year colleges, and take virtual reality college tours
  • Explore 2-year and 4-year colleges and take virtual reality college campus tours
  • Search for scholarships and learn about financial aid
  • Explore traditional, emerging, and military career fields for diverse insights
  • Create a digital portfolio or resume to showcase skills and accomplishments
  • Communicate with counselors for support and guidance on the High School & Beyond Plan
  • Access career interest, strength and mindset surveys

SchooLinks FAQ

  • The HSBP is a graduation requirement in Washington and a tool to support each student’s future planning. State law outlines both what must be included in the plan and how it should be supported across districts.

    • RCW 28A.230.212 establishes the core requirements for every student’s HSBP. Plans must include career and college goals, a personalized four-year course plan, activities that support exploration and planning, and, when applicable, alignment with a student’s IEP transition plan.
    • RCW 28A.230.215 requires OSPI to provide a universal online platform that supports the development and management of HSBPs. The platform ensures equitable access, consistency across districts, and portability of plans as students move. OSPI has selected SchooLinks as the statewide platform, with phased implementation beginning in 2025.

You can read more about the process that lead OSPI to choosing SchooLinks as the universal platform for the High School and Beyond Platform graduation requirement at THIS LINK

  • SchooLinks and OSPI have a data-privacy agreement that requires SchooLinks to protect student data consistent with state and federal privacy laws. SchooLinks processes the student data to personalize the student experience within the universal online HSBP platform for students in Washington. SchooLinks cannot use the student data for other purposes.

  • First, not everyone will have access to this information. SchooLinks uses assigned roles with corresponding permissions to control access. District leaders decide which staff can see what by assigning them to specific Roles (there are 9) and Capabilities (there are about 40). SchooLinks provides technical guidance, and districts can create custom roles with unique permissions to fit their local needs.

SchooLinks is the tool we will now use to help our students create the High School and Beyond Plan (HSBP), which has been a graduation requirement in Washington state for many years. Part of that graduation requirement is parent/guardian approval of the plan, which will now be done on SchooLinks.

In addition, SchooLinks will help us know what kinds of career and college readiness supports to provide for our students. For example:

    • Being able to monitor our students’ progress on the HSBP allows us to provide early interventions for students who may need additional assistance
    • A high number of students indicating an interest in a certain field in their HSBP may trigger us to invite a guest speaker from that field to our campus
  • SchooLinks is one of 3 platforms we use in the Chehalis School District:

    • SchooLinks is the platform that all students in grades 7-12 in Washington State must now use to complete their High School and Beyond Plan (HSBP). At least one parent/guardian for every student is required to connect to their student in SchooLinks in order to approve their student’s HSBP (also a graduation requirement)
    • Skyward Family Access is used to store family and student data. Parents/Guardians may view information such as: grades and missing assignments; schedule; meal account balance; absences; and progress toward graduation. Skyward is also where we keep contact information for your family and where that information needs to be corrected if there is a change.
    • ParentSquare is the Chehalis School District’s primary form of communication with staff, students and families. If you are a parent/guardian of an active student listed in Skyward Family Access, you will automatically receive ParentSquare messages. Important information, schedules and announcements as will emergency messaging will come through ParentSquare.
  • SchooLinks is dedicated to providing an inclusive and accessible platform for all users, including those with disabilities. To achieve this, SchooLinks has integrated an advanced accessibility widget powered by accessiBe. This widget offers a wide range of features designed to enhance the usability of our site for individuals with various accessibility needs.
