Tracking Our Steps On the Journey Ahead

In the Chehalis School District, we take an evidence based approach to preparing students for the journey ahead. Whether its preparing budgets or implementing curriculum, we look at the outcomes of our efforts to inform us of our next steps. As established in School Board policy, part of the process of reviewing our progress is creating an annual report that can be used by our district and the wider Chehalis community to understand where we have been, but more importantly, where we are going.

A Message from the Superintendent

As we look back to the 2024–25 school year, I am proud to report strong academic growth across our district, reflecting our ongoing commitment to the 75 by 35 Goal. Our four‑year graduation rate rose to 97.6% for the W.F. West Class of 2024, an increase of 15.6% from ten years ago. In addition, 62% of grades 10–12 participated in dual credit courses, and our post‑secondary credential attainment remains on a positive trajectory, with over 60% of the Class of 2018 graduates projected to complete a living‑wage certificate or degree within eight years of graduation. On state assessments, Chehalis students achieved foundational grade level proficiency rates of approximately 47.5% in Math, 49.1% in English Language Arts, and 55.8% in Science—benchmarks we are steadily surpassing through targeted supports, curriculum alignment, and intervention efforts

Year One of our Compass for Success aligned with 75 by 35 reinforced these outcomes. We expanded wraparound supports, and strengthened PK–12 college and career readiness systems. Cornerstone, now in its second year, continues to expand early literacy and family engagement. The completion of the Bearcat Baseball Stadium, featuring new turf, lighting, drainage, dugouts, and scoreboard in time for spring athletics was a wonderful gift from many community donors. Our students excelled in countless ways, whether in the classroom, in athletic pursuits, through music performances, in CTE student organizations, STEM labs, and beyond.

Financial stewardship remains a priority as well. By refinancing our 2015 bond at lower rates, we were able to save taxpayers over $200,000 each year.

These accomplishments are a collective success—students, staff, families, and community working as one. We’ve built momentum; now, we set our sights higher. With your continued partnership, we will advance academic excellence, hands-on learning, and equitable opportunity for every Chehalis student.
