Chehalis Middle School Families,

We are so excited to have all of our students back to school!
There are several pieces of information that you will need in preparation for the start of the
school year:

HANDBOOK
Students will be receiving their handbook the first week of school. It is a requirement that the
student signs they received a handbook. Please review the handbook with your student.
Handbooks are also available online. Please note: A student signature acknowledging receipt
of a handbook will be a requirement to participate in any extracurricular activities.

BELL SCHEDULE
School will start at 7:50am and dismiss at 2:20pm. Students will be allowed in the building as
early as 7:20.

REGISTRATION
This year, we will be processing returning student information a little differently. In preparation
for this, we wanted to be sure all families have Skyward set up. If you need help setting up an
account or resetting your password, please visit our school Skyward link:

If you have tried this and do not have an email address in our system please contact the school
office to get set up. Note: the CMS office will reopen August 25th.

SCHEDULES:
Schedules will not be released until returning student information has been updated!
Skyward will re-open approximately two weeks before school starts. You will need to log on and
complete returning student renewal of information before you or your student will be able to view
their 2022-2023 school schedule.

CHOICE/ OUT OF DISTRICT
Returning out of district students will not be able to fill out renewal of information until Choice
paperwork is turned in. In addition, choice students will not have their schedule released until
Out of District paperwork is turned in and the renewal of information is filled out.
6TH GRADE and NEW STUDENT PARENT ORIENTATION
Orientation for parents of 6th grade or new students will be on Monday, August 29 at 5:30pm in
the commons.

SPORTS GRADES 7-8
We are planning to start sports on a regular schedule this year. We will be kicking off the year
with Football, Cross Country, and Girls Soccer on August 29th. If your student wishes to
participate in a sport, please email: liwilson@chehalisschools.org or call the CMS office at
360-807-7230 to add student to the roster (please include your child’s name, grade, and what
sport they wish to participate in). Rank One sports registration page and our CMS payment
page opens August 1. A current sports physical will be required prior to starting any sport.
Physicals are good for 13 months from the date of completion.
Sports fees for all students are as follows:
Sport fee: $20 per sport
ASB Card: $20 once per year

6TH GRADE SPORTS
6th grade students are only allowed to participate in Cross Country and Wrestling Competitions
and Track practices.

IMMUNIZATIONS
ALL 7th and 8th grade students are required to have a TDaP booster administered on or after
age 10 or a valid exemption on file with the school. All students must be in compliance with all
required vaccines before the first day of school. Students not in compliance on the first day
of school will not be allowed to attend classes. Medically verified immunization records
are required.

CMS MEALS
If your family has previously qualified for the Free and Reduced Price Meals program, you will
need to reapply each school year. Applications are available at the CMS office or the District
Office starting July 15th. Students will be responsible for meal costs until Free/Reduced
applications are processed and approved. All CMS students have an electronic food service
account and will use a PIN number. This PIN number and account will be theirs throughout their
time with Chehalis School District. Parents/Guardians may deposit any amount of money into
their student’s account for meal purchases.

PICTURES
Picture day will be Sept 20th! Any students interested in purchasing a 2022-23 ASB card
(needed for participation in all sports) should purchase prior to picture day ($20 either in person
or online https://chehalis.revtrak.net/CMS/#/list).

YEARBOOK
Purchase of the 2022-2023 yearbooks will be available for purchase through Josten’s website.

CELL PHONES & HEADPHONES
The school board is implementing a NO cell phone use policy during class time. Personal
headphones will only be allowed for specific classroom activities used on school issued
Chromebooks only.

CHROMEBOOKS
6th graders will be receiving Chromebooks on the first day of school.
7th & 8th graders will need to bring their school issued Chromebooks fully charged on the first
day of school. Please also bring charging cords.
Personal computers are to be left at home and not brought to school.

LOCKERS
Lockers will not be issued this year. Please remember to bring your backpack daily to school.

SCHOOL FUNDRAISER
CMS will be participating in our annual fundraiser with the kick off being September 21st and
delivery the first week of November. Our ASB counts on the funds raised during this event to
sponsor sports and many other extra curricular activities for our CMS students. Please
participate if you are able.

TRANSPORTATION
If your student is a current bus rider, you should’ve received information from transportation on
your student’s routes. If your student is a new bus rider or if you have any questions, please
contact transportation at 360-330-7628.

SUPPLY LIST
Each student at CMS should come prepared to start the year with the following basic items:
● Personal Refillable Water Bottle
● 3-ring binder 1.5-2 in. x2
● Spiral notebook x2
● Calculator
● Personal headphones
● #2 pencils
● Paper (wide or college ruled)
● 12-inch ruler
● Pens (back or blue)
● Box of kleenex (to 1st period teacher)
