In 1995, Olympic Elementary students buried a time capsule filled with items from that year. As students and staff prepared to transition to the new Orin C. Smith Elementary, the time capsule was unearthed and reopened.
Students in Mrs. Donahue's and Mrs. Duncan's fourth grade classes learned about the climate story of Washington state. Students answered questions including "Which part of the state has more rain, the East or West?" and "Would you be likely to need an umbrella in Ellensburg?"
The new James W. Lintott Elementary School serving grades pre-K through two is moving forward on schedule. This school is scheduled to be completed by the end of the 2017-18 school year.

The Chehalis Foundation asked a few W.F. West seniors and science teachers to share their thoughts and experiences having worked with the STEM programs and equipment made available by the Chehalis Foundation.
