Incoming Freshmen were welcomed by Leadership Students as the newest Bearcats on “Freshman Link Day,” Wednesday, August 21. With the help of of Mrs. Jen Taylor, the leadership students organized an incredible learning opportunity for students new to W. F. West High School. Entering the gym through a tunnel of “high fives,” students gathered in the gymnasium and sat in the “Freshman” designated area on the bleachers. To prepare for upcoming Pep Assemblies and football games, leadership students taught the freshman the school fight song and several cheers. They played silly games and were coached by several staff and students on the culture of their new school.
Clearly, the goal of this event was to help incoming students learn, “The Bearcat Way” and feel comfortable with their surroundings when school starts on Wednesday, September 4. ““Welcome to over 130 years of tradition. We want you to feel respected, included and part of the Bearcat legacy,” said Principal Regina Carr. “Leadership students went all out to create an exciting day for incoming freshman!”
