Dear CMS Parents and Students,

Get Ready! It’s that time of year for all of us to be thinking about another fantastic school year at Chehalis Middle School. This year will look a little different than in the past, but we hope that you have had a great summer break and are ready to further your education. Listed below are a few items and dates that will help you get ready for the 2020-2021 school year.

*Asynchronous learning time is scheduled for students to work on assignments. In a classroom setting; students have independent learning time where they work on assignments given during instruction and have the ability to ask questions and get help from the teacher. Asynchronous learning time is developed to be utilized in the same way.

STUDENT / PARENT RESOURCES:
There is a resource page for students, parents and guardians called “Tutorials for Parents and Students“.  This page provides ‘how to’ videos and cheat sheets pertaining to Google tools, Chromebooks, Seesaw and other tools they need to be successful in the distance learning environment.
STUDENT CHROMEBOOKS:
Students will have an icon on their HelloID home page with a link to the “Tutorials for Parents and Students” page.  In most cases, it will be the first icon.

All Students:

Sign into your chromebook using the log-in card you received with it (this is your Google information). You can access the information on your chromebook by following the directions (click next) then holding up the card with the QR code to the camera, the camera will read the QR code on the card and log you on to all your applications – see this video for complete instructions (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1hZO7GCHIMVoXzN80DecKT5cQQiqiPhOS/view). Once online check your email, this is where you will receive information from your teachers and the invite for your classes. Do note that you will start school on the 1st, and since it is a Tuesday, you will be starting school with 5th period.

One of the applications available to the students on their hello-id home screen is Skyward. Schedules were available on Skyward last Friday– however please be sure to check the schedules again before class starts on Tuesday to be sure no changes were made.  If you see an error in the schedule (duplicate classes, etc.), please contact the office. Skyward passwords have been reset for ALL STUDENTS. Students need to login by using the following information:

login: firstname.lastname

password: Wildcats#1!

Immunizations:

ALL seventh and eighth grade students should have had a TDaP booster within the last five years and also need to have had chickenpox verification by a physician, or two doses of the Varicella (chickenpox) vaccine. All students must be in compliance before the first day of school.

Supply List:

At this time the supplies needed for school are the chromebooks supplied by the school. Please be aware that some teachers may have additional supplies they will suggest for their students once classes start.

Student Agenda:

The agenda has been designed to help students keep track of homework assignments and upcoming exams. Using the agenda, along with the CMS website: http://www.chehalisschools.org/cms/home and Family Access: http://family.chehalis.wa-k12.net helps parents track their student’s progress. Please take time to review your student’s agenda and sign it. Specific notes from parents to teachers need to be sent directly to the teacher. The agendas are part of our curriculum and students may be given a grade for its use. Students will be given an agenda for no charge at registration. If she/he needs to replace their agenda during the school year, the cost will be $5.00.  

CMS Meals:  

School meal service will start on Tuesday, Sept. 1 2020 at the Chehalis Middle School, and the Chehalis Bus Garage. Pickup times are from 11-12 on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Costs will follow the district guidelines. Applications for the National School Lunch Program can be found online at our website, www.chehalisschools.org or in person at your student’s building.

Please note: If your family has previously qualified for the Free and Reduced Price Meals program, you will need to re-apply each school year. Applications are available at the CMS office or the District Office. Students will be responsible for meal costs until Free/Reduced applications are processed and approved. All CMS students have an electronic food service account and will use a PIN number.  This PIN number and account will be theirs throughout their time with Chehalis School District.  Parents/Guardians may deposit any amount of monies into their student’s account for meal purchases.   

Important Dates:

The CMS office is open for the 2020-2021 school year from 7:30 AM-12:00 PM & 1:00-3:30 PM. Fall sports are postponed at this time, we hope to resume sports on a modified schedule in early January, please look for more information to be sent out. The first day of school is Tuesday, 9/1.
