Congratulations to the W.F. West High School Dairy FFA Team! The team was recognized by the Washington State House of Representatives, sponsored by Ed Orcutt and Richard Debolt of the 20th District. The representatives passed House Resolution 2020-4678 to recognize their excellence as state champions and ranking fourth in the nation.

After placing first at the Washington Station Championship, Chehalis placed 4th out of 43 teams from across the U.S. and Puerto Rico in the National Convention in Indianapolis last fall. Team member Lauryn Young placed 6th of 173 participants receiving an individual recognition.

Team members include Gary Young, Cassy Schilter, Lauryn Young, Kaylee Keehr and Sahara Twiss. The Chehalis students are advised in FFA by CTE teachers Chris Guenther and Kyla Bailey.

The contests are an FFA-sponsored career development event that evaluates a student’s ability to select quality dairy cattle, tests their knowledge about the industry and herd improvement, and requires students to support their decisions with oral reasoning.

The team has been invited to participate in the International Youth Dairy Judging Tour, which includes Ireland, Scotland, and Luxembourg’s National Dairy Show.
